Chicago’s Bottom Lounge was buzzing this week with a lively performance by Carter Vail. Opening up the night was Easy Honey, setting an upbeat, classic indie rock vibe that warmed up the audience perfectly. Their set was a great prelude to the unique performance Carter Vail would soon kick off.

From the moment Carter stepped onstage, he and his band showcased a great stage presence; they even played a Chicago-themed jig at the beginning to connect with the crowd and set the tone for the rest of the show. Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without a nod to his beloved song “Dirt Man”, a social media sensation, and many other jokes throughout his performance kept the atmosphere fun and engaging.

It wasn’t all just banter, though; Vail showcased his strong vocals weaved with a fun synth-y background and giving a taste of his new record. Released last month, Coydog is his third album. One of the standout aspects of the show is how Vail demonstrated his knack for building songs, starting with simple elements and growing them into rich, full soundscapes. My personal favorite track that showcases this was “Six Feet Under”, a song from Coydog. Carter Vail brought his unique blend of strong vocals, fun synths, and plenty of laughs, making a unique and fun performance at the bottom lounge.
