Join Midday with K this Wednesday at 4:30pm CST on WIIT 88.9FM streaming live at radio.iit.edu for a telephone interview with Scale Model!
Scale Model Bio:
Scale Model is an indie rock/pop band based in Nashville, TN. They combine complex instrumental structure with unique, catchy vocal melodies to create a sound that transcends the staples of pop.
“If you haven’t had the pleasure of hearing Scale Model yet, let us be the first to tell you: you’re in for a treat. The Nashville four-piece plays an infectious blend of synth melodies and danceable drum beats, and tops it all of with some of the best female vocals Music City has to offer.”
-No Country for New Nashville
“Scale Model certainly seems inspired by New Romanticism, with four-on-the-floor beats, positive-minded, ambitious content and saccharine, synth-driven progressions.”
“…Scale Model uses New Wave’s synthesis of propulsive rhythms from krautrock and disco as a foundation…letting Rox’s vocal melodies float on top like Nena or “Heart of Glass”-era Debbie Harry.”
“[Megan] Rox’s more self-assured vocals have become a revelation. It’s not just that her singing is so delectable and angelic on this brand new EP, but on songs like the wondrous “Ground Beneath My Feet” (and the great “Set Me Free,” from their also-excellent 2010 Set Me Free E.P.), her delivery and words sound inspiring. And on closing tracks “Mindreader” and “Impression,” her voice soars. What a lovely record!”

Fronted by three powerful female vocalists and bringing decades of combined music and performance experience, Seven Soul makes the perfect act for any club, festival, or event. Some artists they cover:
- Aretha Franklin

- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
- Janis Joplin
- Tina Turner
- ZZ Top

Alisa grew up with a musical father who toured in a Gospel quartet. In addition to southern Gospel, her earliest musical memories include a lot of Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Elvis, Beach Boys, Three Dog Night, Lawrence Welk, and the Warner Brothers classical soundtrack. She sang in her church youth choir, but also liked alternative sounds like R.E.M., The Replacements, Sonic Youth, They Might Be Giants, and anything NOT on the radio. Only recently, she broke into the “band” scene, headlining at places such as Shark City, Phil McCrackens, Penny Road Pub, and more. Alisa is a high-energy performer who loves delivering deeper, darker songs and some sweet harmonies with Seven Soul.
Jen’s parents will tell you she started singing since before talking. With a background in choir, classical voice, theatre, and improv, Jen is a well-rounded performing child of the 80’s, influenced by a classic rock loving, blues guitar playing dad and her mom’s Monkees records. She takes cues from Tina Turner, Pat Benatar, Janis, and Joan Osborne, delivering energetic, gritty performances. Jen played with The Express Band and The Prior Brothers Band in Minneapolis, recording CDs with both. After devoting much of the last few years to theatre projects, Jen is ready to rock and roll with Seven Soul (but you can still ask her about A Klingon Christmas Carol anytime).
Kristen grew up with “Blackbird” as a lullaby and fell asleep each night to classical music as a baby. At 10, she began playing the flute, which led to a degree in music. Later, her career took her to NYC where she developed a crippling addiction to karaoke. This was “the dark period”… countless hours, days, weeks frittered away on seedy sofas in dark karaoke lounges, selling plasma to pay for the Korea-town private karaoke rooms…. OK, not really. But, she sang a LOT of karaoke and eventually grew some singing cajones. Back in the Midwest, she sang with actual bands. Kristen is beyond pumped to sing her face off with Seven Soul, blowing your mind with some powerhouse tunes and spine-tingling harmonies!
Peter remembers listening to the British Invasion coming through his parent’s radio, starting a lifelong love of music. In 8th grade, he borrowed a guitar and taught himself to play. In high school, he played an upright bass and (with less than 2 weeks to prepare) won a gold medal for a Vivaldi duet performance. As a senior, Pete played electric bass in a band, playing songs from Chicago to Motown. Many great musicians have influenced Pete, but the sound of “Whole Lotta Love” thundering through a room was pure freedom. In addition to playing for Seven Soul, Pete spends his spare time creating beats and composing electronic music and frequently jams at open mic nights and other musical projects.
Because his mother refused to let him have drums in the house, Rich got his first guitar at age 14 and he’s never looked back. Growing up in the 1970′s, it’s only natural that Rich became a huge fan of the big guitar sounds that shape his style and sound to this day. Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Joe Perry, Robin Trower, Tom Scholz, and Peter Frampton, are some of his main influences, but he tries to take a little something from every guitarist he’s ever heard. Rich has shared the stage with many great bands and musicians in the last 30 years or so and is very, very excited to help bring Seven Soul to you—just don’t give him a microphone (you’ve been warned).
After hearing Jim Croce’s “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim,” Steve bought his first guitar. After learning a few chords, he played his first live gig—his 8th grade graduation. Playing to a crowd left Steve wanting more. After hearing Led Zeppelin, Steve bought a Fender Stratocaster and formed a band. He spent his younger years playing in Wisconsin and Illinois clubs. In his 30’s, he put down the guitar to begin a family and an engineering career. Nearly 20 years later, Steve dusted off his guitar and played again. Over the years, Steve has played with many talented musicians and has been influenced by 60’s music, soul, blues, and rock. Steve is proud to be a part of Seven Soul, and he encourages everyone to come out and see the talent this band has to offer!
Tim first started playing drums at the age of 6. Growing up in northwest Indiana, he was exposed to all sorts of music, from rock to jazz to classical. He performed with many different groups during his teens and went on to college in Chicago, graduating with a BA in music education. While at college, Tim became a very sought-after performer, writer and clinician, playing with a wide variety of organizations. Over the years, he’s played with many bands, most notably as the drummer and support vocalist of Justyn Kase, notorious on the Chicago club circuit in the 1990’s. His musical influences range from Gene Krupa to Ringo Starr, David Garibaldi to Neil Peart, Hal Blaine to Danny Seraphine, and then some!

Join Midday with K this Wednesday at 4:30pm CST on WIIT 88.9FM streaming live at radio.iit.edu for a live interview and performance with Ethan Butler along with co-hosts DJ Half Pint, Samuel Graham Jr., and Eric Cea aka DJ Pirate Bam’s Most Hated Mix at 5.
Born and raised on the west side of Chicago, Ethan Butler does not produce your typical Westside, church-raised tunes. Drawing inspirations from MJ to Coldplay and JT to John Williams, Ethan describes himself as a “center city artist,” embracing the diversity of Chicago. While layering light undertones of jazz, R&B, and Funk with acoustic pop, Ethan intertwines different genres to give you a diverse listening experience with a consistent and distinct sound.
As the son of a music pastor, Ethan was surrounded by music from a young age. But heavy pursuits in music didn’t begin until he received his first guitar for his 13th birthday in 2001. By May of 2002, he started a 12 year journey of writing and performing, and leading worship at different churches, retreats and conferences. Although his musical exploration was limited to that of the church life, he continued to write and dream of a life within the mainstream industry. In January 2013, Ethan began pursuing that dream with a Kick off concert in Logan square bringing in a draw of nearly 300 people. And with that wind behind his back he started doing open mics and shows throughout Chicago at places like, Uncommon Ground, The Store, Elbo Room, Mayne Stage, Goose Island, and more.
In autumn of 2013, Ethan released a self titled, 8 track demo called M-perfections which you can purchase only at his shows.
Now it’s 2014 and Ethan is working hard on several projects which he hopes to start releasing sometime this summer. He has also done some collaborative work with Artist like Micah Bournes, a spoken word/HipHop artist, and Sir WJ, both of who have projects releasing this year. So if you haven’t caught a show of Ethan Butler, be sure to do so soon. He will not disappoint with his funky and skilled guitar work, smooth vocals, powerful vocals, and engaging lyrics.

Join Midday with K this Wednesday at 6:00pm for a live interview with Mireya Fouche of One Heart One Soul.
WHO IS ONE HEART ONE SOUL?
An innovative & creative organization that works within communities to raise awareness on social issues surrounding the homeless community. By showing the love of Christ, we provide platforms for communities to get involved and a voice for the voiceless. We’ve birthed programs such as “UNSPOKEN WORDS, a voice for homeless youth”, UMATTER: Chicago Winter Drive, and Second Chance Styling. We continue planting seeds into hearts of communities.
MISSION AND VISION
Our mission is to provide a voice for those who often go unheard. Drawing together members of the Chicago community to accomplish projects, we will raise awareness and eliminate misconceptions of often over-looked social issues surrounding the homeless community. Our goal is to provide opportunities for people to become actively involved & gain perspective of real-life issues existing in their own neighborhoods. Our vision is to provide bridges between churches, businesses, and communities that lead towards one mission – creating a positive impact on the lives of others. We are dedicated to the belief that help from many brings hope to all.
MIREYA FOUCHÈ & THE VISION
Inspired by (Acts 4:32) “All the believers were one in heart and mind”. Mireya Fouche, a young woman of faith and determination, found herself unstable while pursuing her degree in Apparel Manufacturing Management at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), one of the top fashion schools in the nation. Determined to obtain her degree in the face of limited resources, she lived out of her suitcase while couch surfing for the 6 months prior to receiving her degree. Her education paid off and she quickly found herself emerged in Los Angeles fashion industry, however, she could not ignore the individuals sleeping on Skid Row and found herself volunteering at shelters and in the trenches. With the guidance of God, Mireya’s passion to give voice to invisible people who often went unheard and ignored led her to vacate her corporate career in L.A. and move to Chicago.
At the age of 27 she walked by faith and formed the organization One Heart One Soul. Currently, Mireya holds an Apparel Manufacturing Management degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Los Angeles and will obtain a degree in Merchandise Management from the international Academy of Design and Technology Chicago. Recently Mireya has entered the field of HIV and community outreach and has received a State of Illinois HIV Testing and Counseling certificate. Mireya says, “I love what I do. I continue educating myself in order to educate others. The big picture for One Heart One Soul is amazing. I guess you’ll have to stay connected to see what we become, or better yet, join us as we move towards the future. We firmly believe that help from many brings hope to all.” Mireya Fouche, Founder and Director
